Novice Track (Highlights)

  • Based off the NIHD model
  • Walk-through practice rounds
  • Emphasis on mastering the basics at a relaxed pace
  • More fun with our speech and debate drills, games and friendly competitions

This institute experience offers three tracks of instruction. Here is a breakdown:

1. Novice Track – This track is for brand new students or those with limited experience in policy or LD debate. Students will receive instruction in the fundamentals of policy debate. Special attention on stock issues, structure, how to cut evidence, verbal and nonverbal communication. Resolution specific sessions will educate students on the new Stoa resolution for the 2017-2018 season. Practice debates within their level will help them break the ice.

2. Open Team Policy + Parli –This track will focus on topical research and argument development. Students will be encouraged to stretch their argument arsenal during practice debates. Topicality, counterplans, 'Kritiques' and other advance strategies will be addressed. Resolution specific sessions will educate students on specific case areas and how to debate both sides.

3. Open Lincoln Douglas + Parli – Students will learn both the fundamentals and advanced strategies of value debating. In addition to case construction, argumentation theory and case-specific responses will be developed. Resolution specific sessions will educate students on specific case areas and how to debate both sides.

Parent/Coach Track

Parents and coaches may attend any of the above tracks for free. Those wishing to receive handout material and attend the coaching sessions, should sign up for the parent/coach track.


  • This track is $75 for the 3 day option and $125 for the full week.

  • We are offering a discounted rate of $50 for parents bringing two students.

  • The track is free for parents bringing three students.
